3-Day Secrets of the Portrait From Life and Photos

CoRK Arts District is excited to invite ARC Associate Living Master Artist Tina Garrett to Jacksonville, Florida. Tina started oil painting in 2012 and shares with her students the practical methods she uses in her award-winning portraiture to help artists make the best paintings they’ve ever made. Tina is a two-time ARC Salon Purchase Prize Winner, three-time Oil Painters of America Online Showcase awardee, an International Artist Magazine People & Figures Grand Prize winner and a proud Portrait Society of America Cecelia Beaux Forum Mentor and a Portrait Society of America International Art of Portrait Conference Staff member — Orlando, 2020.

In this comprehensive, 3-day workshop, Tina will share her secrets to painting heirloom quality portraiture from life and photos from beginning to end. Tina will demonstrate painting from the live model, posing and photographing the model using only your smart phone as well as best practices for successful relationships with professional models and happy commission clients. Tina will demonstrate editing photos in both Photoshop and from prints. Tina will demonstrate the full processes she employs in all her works, focusing on composition, values, chroma, edges, mark making, demonstrate how to control your palette for accurate values and color and give key strategies for portrait artists including detailed instruction on client contracts and relations, PR/marketing, social media and how to price your work.

Student will paint from the live model on day one, including learning how to pose and photograph a model using Tina’s Genaray SpectroLED Studio 500 Bi-Color LED Light kit and their own smart phone. On day’s two and three students will paint from the photos they took on day one, or from photos Tina provides or students may bring their own photos to work from.

**This is an intermediate Workshop meaning artists have painted in oil paint before and are familiar with their materials, it is not a question of how ‘good’ your work is, rather a measure of your familiarity with oil painting materials. Absolute beginners who have never painted with oil paints are recommended to first take Tina’s Starting Methods Workshop.
