If you'd asked me in 2012, when I first started painting, if someday would I be invited to teach my own oil painting workshop, I'd probably have laughed and then cried. I was so overwhelmed and I really thankful just being a student myself. And now, here I am, just back from my first workshop in Italy, schedule to teach all over the U.S. at established schools such as the Scottsdale Artists' School and Village Arts Putney, and invited back to Italy this time to teach a 5 day workshop at the Florence Studio where I'll help students begin and finish a portrait from life. I'm so proud to have my work featured in the fantastic video above. There are a couple in progress images of me painting and mine is the piece you see at the end of the video.
These five years have been an amazing road to discovering how dreams can actually come true.
This weekend, my first and most influential teacher, Romel de la Torre, is back to teach at my Lee's Summit, Missouri Studio for the 6th time. It will be so great to work with him again, to thank him for all the encouragement and advice he's and all my amazing teachers have given me and hangout with students from all over the U.S. while we learn from him.
I'm excited to start my next set of paintings too! I've carved out the next three months with no teaching engagements so I can get focused on my own work and I'll begin my 2018 schedule in February at the new Hull Academy in Texas! It's such a beautiful new facility, I'm really proud to be one of their first teachers! In March, I'm in Utah at the Bountiful Davis Art Center for a 4 day workshop and in April, I'm truly honored to be invited to teach a workshop specifically for beginners at the famed Village Arts Putney in Putney, Vermont. Wouldn't it be phenomenal if the amazing Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik stopped in to say hi!?? I'm not betting on it, but if anywhere in the world it would be possible, it's the Putney Barn! And I'll be happy just being at the studio where so much amazing art has been made.
In April, I'll also stop at the Portrait Society Conference in Virginia on my way to teach at the 2018 First Brush of Spring Workshops, Hoosier Salon at New Harmony in Indiana and then to Maryland at the Compass Atelier in late April. In May I'm excited to have the great Katie Whipple teaching at my Missouri Studio in a sold out event and by June I'll be at the San Clemente Art Center in California for a two-day workshop where my own wonderful daughter, Grace, will be our model.
By September 2018, I'll be back in Italy teaching again and I can't wait!!! Arkansas, Iowa and another workshop at the Scottsdale Artists' School in Arizona will round out the end of my teaching schedule in 2018 and workshops in Michigan, New Jersey, South Africa and Brazil are already on the calendar for 2019!!
I'm tickled pink to have all these wonderful opportunities to teach and above all, to be a part of the journey of so many beautiful artists. To see the full schedule and hold your spot click here.
